Our advocates meet individually with survivors to focus on understanding and assessing their immediate needs. We work in a collaborative process with survivors. Advocates perform an initial assessment of survivors to determine their immediate situation and needs.
Advocates then help survivors develop a life plan for the immediate future that will aid them in moving out of crisis and into a stable living environment. We also assist clients in care coordination to ensure that they and their families are having their health care needs met.
As the survivor moves through this process, advocates work with them to strengthen their life skills which include access to employment, budgeting, household management and other critical areas.
Survivors are also encouraged to participate in support groups, classes and workshops to enhance their skills.
At Option House, our advocates offer individuals and other organizations educational information regarding domestic violence and services we offer. We can also make referrals for survivors for other services or benefits for which they may be eligible.
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic we are limited on our availability to do court accompaniments since the courthouse has strict guidelines. However, if allowed one of our Domestic Violence Advocates is more than happy to accompany a victim to court.
